Iranian Women’s One Million Signatures Campaign for Equality: The Inside Story is the second volume in Women’s Learning Partnership’s Translation Series, the book was originally published in Persian in Iran, with WLP’s updated English edition released following the country’s 2009 presidential election. This publication details the history, strategies, and values that brought together a diverse group of Iranian women, men, and rights activists for a women’s equality campaign, and captures a twenty-first century model for grassroots movements, applicable not only to societies ruled by autocratic governments or radical fundamentalism, but also to democratic societies that have yet to achieve full equality. The Arabic edition is especially timely given the movements in the Middle East and North Africa, as it provides an important tool for women, human rights advocates, and academics, to address creative means by which women can mobilize to preserve their legal rights during times of transition.
